Monument to the Female Paramedic

The Monument to the Female Medical Orderly in Kołobrzeg is a moving memorial to the women who fought in the ranks of the Polish Army during the Second World War. The bronze sculpture was created by Adolf Cogiel – the monument was unveiled on 13 July 1980 on Sikorskiego Street, in the spa district. It depicts a kneeling female medic in uniform, tending to a wounded soldier – the figure was modelled on Private Ewelina Nowak, who was killed in the battles for Kołobrzeg in March 1945. The monument was designed so that the sun’s rays would never fall on the nurse’s face – a symbolic expression of sorrow and mourning. Situated close to Żeromski Park, it is an important landmark for walkers and a historical site in the heart of the city.
